Fallout ‘08
Posted by Kyle Somerfield on August 31st, 2008Fallout ’08 is coming up soon and looks to be a great tournament. The tournament will be held on October 25 and 26 in Rantoul, IL. Rantoul is about a 20-minute drive from the University of Illinois’ campus. If you have not put your team’s bid in yet, do it soon because there are not too many spots left. Here is some information that you need to know:
TOURNAMENT INFO:
At the tournament, you will receive a team disc, breakfast for both days, and plenty of water for your team. The first round will start at 8:30 A.M. and there will be a captain’s meeting at 8:15 A.M. Brackets are posted below. If your team has a bye first round (Northwestern Y, SIU, Washington University B, DePaul X, and Lincoln Christian), please pick up your team packet at the entrance to the fields.
TEAM FEES:
The fee is $175 per team, and it will need that to be mailed to me in advance. I don’t like teams to bring the money to the tournament because there is always a chance that they won’t show up (it’s happened to us before). The check can be made out to our team’s treasurer, Kyle McKinley. Please mail the check to me at the following address: Miles Corcoran; 1012 S. First St. #6; Champaign IL, 61820.
FIELD INFO:
The tournament will be held in Rantoul, IL and there will be two separate locations with fields. The main location (Bill Seeber Memorial Soccer Complex) will have 6 fields and the second location (John Baermann Parade Grounds) will have 4 fields. There is a possibility that your team will have to change field locations between rounds. Here is a link to a map of the area that shows how to get from the Bill Seeber Memorial Soccer Complex (point A) to the John Baermann Parade Grounds (point B). There is no parking in the grass at the main field site, but there is plenty of parking available in the lot across the street. There is a parking lot at the second field site at the north end of the fields.
HOTEL INFO:
There is a hotel in Rantoul that is right next to the fields called Quarters Inn; their phone number is 217.893.1234. This hotel is right across the street from the main field site, so I suggest them as your first choice. The women’s teams have a tournament hotel called Park Inn, which is in Urbana. So if you want to stay with your school’s woman’s team, that hotel number is 217.344.8000. You must say the Women’s TD’s name to get any of the rooms (Jayne Widhalm) and/or for faster look up you can use the confirmation number (#74158). If you need any other suggestions for accommodations, please email me.
PARTY INFO:
We will provide captains with food tickets for everyone on your team that will get you guys free appetizers on Saturday night at Brothers Bar & Grill located on the U of I campus. The tournament party will be there as well; we set up a deal with Brothers, so you’ll be able to get free pitchers of beer until 10:00. After 10:00, you’ll have to pay for your own drinks, and since Brothers is one of the more popular bars on campus, it will probably get pretty crowded. Be warned that if you come to the tournament party after 10:00, there will probably be a very long line outside to get in. Since the party is in Champaign and not Rantoul, if you plan on drinking, please designate a driver or find a place to stay on campus that is walking distance.
If you have any questions, or if you noticed anything that I left out, please don’t hesitate to email me at mcorcor3@illinois.edu.
